I completed my first art mural in Wynwood Arts District!
It was a great feeling to be up high on the lift but very scary as it was swinging a bit from the wind. If you are looking for a Wynwood Mural Artist Feel free to contact me.

Sitting here writing my blog post at about 6:21am not because I am up that early but because I sleep that late. The pursuit is endless and I cannot find the end to this path I am on. I search for the answers in my dreams hoping that they will reveal some memory as to why I cannot sleep.
I imagine I was cursed at a young age to stay restless. So here we are once again chasing dreams hoping that once my eyes close I'll find that infinite paradise somewhere between the REM and the morning light.
The sacred paradise that haunts our ambitions and holds on to tight to our waking life. When we will ever reach success when the day never meets the night. That late night that serenades thoughts of a passionate youth when time never seemed to fade away, now we find ourselves chasing light into the smokey distance with no end in sight.
Read MoreMy pieces take a long time to create as I use a magnifying glass to work on the intricate details. This is my latest piece called Oracle which I've been working on in my studio. I sometimes battle between showing works in progress or not. I like to show completed works as I feel that the outcome has a better effect then seeing missing pieces that have yet to be completed. Even when I have studio visits I don't allow any photography of works in progress but today I'm feeling really good about the progress of Oracle so I decided to show a preview. This piece here is about 18" x 24" so its quite big. The hours put in so far are about over 50.

Art studio visits in Wynwood is interesting, you walk through a door into an artists private creative process, you see the little details that make up their work, you see the madness, the thought process, the inspirational elements that make up the soul and the vulnerability. My studio is made up of a collection of dust and relics from my past, books sit on wine box shelves and a small array of antiques I've collected through my travels. At any moment your eye may catch an antique primitive manual hand drill or a cheap thrift store art-piece that inspired me.

My workspace often remains cluttered with various pen sizes, markers,, rulers, triangles and micron-pens. Often sitting on my shelf you may find a book on Aztec culture, Ernst Haeckel, slam poetry or modern architecture. A collection of various sized magnifying glasses in array of materials ranging from wood to metal to bronze. Empty Bottles of Malbec wine usually line the edge of the wall next to a mustard yellow vintage sofa which has often been the witness to sleepless nights at my desk and long mornings. the scent of indian incense regularly fill the air and dried flowers left in an empty wine bottles line my work shelf.
I find that my studio brings a bit of frustration at times, my unfinished art pieces stare me in the face, mocking me to finish them and it becomes a struggle and balance between production and perfection.

Held at Viophilia, this event was meant to celebrate the end of the world and a special birthday for Ivette Cabrera. Participants came in dressed as if an apocalypse had swept the earth and they were the last living survivors. A truck bed full of sand was poured into the the space and guests danced over tumbled newspaper and debris. The space was filled with sand and debris as guests graced the space with wild costumes from hazmat suits to warrior battle gear. Many of the costumes were styled by the talented Francy Freixas of The Sirens Den. Here are some photos of that night.

The image always takes a while to develop and I must admit that sometimes I loose faith thinking I’ve ruined the artwork completely but patience does play a role in this watercolor process and as the watercolor paint dries the image slowly begins to reveal itself proving once more that the mind can play foolish games if one looses self-confidence.

the "so you think you can paint" event at viophilia kicked off an free for all paint party in miami's wynwood arts district. The event is all-inclusive regardless of ability. So even if the dogs you draw look like deformed dinosaurs, you're still welcome.
"Masters mix with amateurs, curators blend with observers and even non-artists are inspired to participate," say the ladies of Viophilia. "By breaking down the individual roles of artist, spectator, and consumer, the environment influences the final work through a collaborative experience. In short, the idea is to let go of labels and inhibitions and freely express yourself."
The gist is this: large scale wood panels and canvases are hung around the room (plus floor coverings for easy clean up), plus supply stations are stocked with paints, brushes, water, palettes, and paper towels.
Then, attendees can take the materials and run with 'em. The aesthetic progress is posted via social media (Facebook and Instagram), and the end result is a mural mash-up of sorts; a collaborative effort between an eclectic mix of paintbrush-wielding participants.
Viophilia itself is a collective, founded in 2012 by Ivette Cabrera, Francy Freixas and Natalia Molina. Basically, it consists of an exhibition space and five live/work artist studios, so the digs are designed to be creativity-inducing.
"The idea for So You Think You Can Paint came about from a trip to San Francisco. I attended one myself held at Club Six curated by Jay Frost," explains Cabrera. "The event was filled with all kinds of artists and spectators, some artists collaborated on pieces together and others stood back and watched art pieces come alive. What made the event interesting was the lack of pretentiousness; it was just a collaborative effort from artists of all ranges and mediums freely expressing themselves and creating one of a kind pieces together that never would have sprung about otherwise."
You can check out a video from their last event for an idea of what to expect. Oh, and get excited: they're planning an even larger scale collective paint-o-rama for Art Basel.
The event runs from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday at Viophilia, 164 NW 20th St., Suite 101-102. Admission is free. Attendees are welcome to bring extra supplies (but no aerosol). You can find Viophilia on Facebook and Instagram @Viophilia.
